GENERAL INFORMATION

Dear customer,
We first of all wish to thank you for having purchased one of our heat
recovery type fireplaces,  Mod BI300 with built-in storage tank boiler
for the production of hot sanitary water, or  Mod BS300 which is the
version without production of sanitary water. For the purpose of using
your new heating fireplace to its best, we kindly ask you to carefully
follow the advice given in this operating and maintenance manual and
to make sure that the technicians installing the fireplace read its contents
so that they can obtain all the technical information necessary for
correctly installing it.
The TERMOPALEX series of fireplaces must be installed only by qualified
installers and this also applies to the steel boiler and to the plumbing
and electrical connections, the flue fittings and all complementary work
necessary to ensure the fireplace works properly (DPR 24-7-1996,
n.459 Art.2 Paragraph 6)

1.1

PACKING LIST

The fireplace is delivered in one pack, protected by a sheet of heat-
shrunk nylon for transportation. You will find the following items inside
the hearth:

GENERAL RULES

To ensure the fireplace works properly it is necessary to follow some
fundamental rules regarding the  FLUE, the  AIR INTAKE and
INSTALLATION. Ref. UNI 10683/98

The EXTERNAL AIR INTAKE is essential to ensure an appropriate
flow of COMBUSTION AIR (Fig. 7), especially if there are windows
with double-glazing and seals. Drill a hole with a diameter of at
least 15 cm on one of the outside walls. If possible, the hole should
be below fireplace level, behind or to the side of the fireplace and
should be fitted with a grid against insects and for closing (Fig. 7).

The size of the  FLUE must comply with technical specifications.
It is recommended to use flues insulated preferably in a refractory
material or stainless steel with a circular cross-section and smooth
internal walls (Fig. 2). Flue cross-section should be kept constant
for all its height. A minimum height of 3.5 ÷  4 m is recommended
(see Fig. 4). Under the outlet of the smoke pipe there should be a
chamber for gathering solid materials and any condensation. Flue
features must conform to the UNI standards 9615, 9731 and 10683.
DETERIORATING flues made with unsuitable materials (such as
asbestos cement, galvanised steel, etc., with a rough or porous
internal surface) are illegal and can jeopardise the correct operation
of the fireplace.

 

A  PERFECT DRAUGHT is above all the result of a flue that is clear

of obstructions such as chokes, horizontal sections or corners;
any axial displacements should be at a maximum angle of 45°
compared to the vertical axis, (better still if it is only 30°). These
displacements should preferably be effected near the chimney
top.

The SMOKE CONNECTION between the fireplace and flue should
be done with specific pipes and bends in rigid aluminised steel at
least 2 mm thick, or in 1 mm thick stainless steel that facilitate
installation and also guarantee functionality and resistance (Fig.
7). It is forbidden to use flexible metal or asbestos cement pipes.

The CHIMNEY TOP shall be the WINDPROOF type with an inside
cross section equivalent to that of the flue and with a smoke outlet
passage section at least DOUBLE the internal one of the flue (Fig.
3).

 To avoid draught problems, each fireplace should have its own
flue. If there is more than one flue on the roof the others should be
situated at a distance of at least 2 metres and the fireplace’s
chimney top should be at least 40 cm ABOVE the others (Fig. 4). If

the chimney tops are near each other install some dividing panels
and/or raise one at least 40 cm above the other.

To ensure correct installation, the smoke pipe between the fireplace
and flue must be airtight, sealing all the joints.

If the fireplace is installed with a flue that has already been used
with other fireplaces it should be cleaned thoroughly to avoid
malfunctions and the danger of unburned parts deposited on the
inside from catching fire.

On all Monoblocchi, on the outsides of the hearth and hood,
apply 3 cm thick rock wool panels with aluminium sheet
backing to thermally insulate the fireplace.

The UNI standards foresee the installation of a heat
discharge grille as close as possible to the ceiling
.

2.1

INSTALLING THE FIREPLACE

2.1.1

DRY ASSEMBLY TEST

a) We suggest you pre-assemble the fireplace dry together with our

marble cladding if used so as to see exactly how much room is
taken up by the various components and the air intake passage,

b) The front of the fireplace must coincide with the internal edge of

the marble surface leaving a gap of 3-5 mm to allow free expansion
of the Monoblocco. It is advisable to place a panel of rock wool in
this gap and between all parts where the heating fireplace and
cladding touch.

c )  Choose the side for the plumbing – whether on the right or left –

and then close the fittings that are not going to be used with sealing
plugs (we do not supply them).

d) Remove the heating fireplace and cladding so the masonry work

can be done.

e) Make the air intake hole on the external wall so that the cold

combustion air comes in under the hearth (Fig. 11) (C).

Note: Increase this section 20% for each metre that goes beyond the
40 cm of the wall.

2.1.2

FINAL ASSEMBLY

a) Position the base taking into account that the hearth of marble

cladding must be on the same level as the base.

b) Plumb in the boiler as shown in the plumbing diagrams and comply

with the current standards (M.D. 1

2.1.3

CONNECTION TO THE FLUE

Flue dimensions must correspond to those given in the table on the
technical data sheet. We suggest using suitably thick metal pipes and
curves for the smoke outlet fitting, to be installed between the fireplace
and flue, without exceeding an inclination of 45° (Fig. 9).
Once the fitting has been done, lag the metal smoke outlet pipes with
rock wool or ceramic fibre.

2.1.4

SMOKE REGISTER

The handle to manually adjust the smoke outlet register, given together
with the connecting rod, is to be inserted in the counter hood, i.e., at the
top part of the fireplace, cutting it to the right length so it is blocked
between the smoke outlet butterfly valve and the adjustment handle.
The handle’s housing must then be fixed to the counter hood (Fig.10)
