modem
Modulator-Demodulator. A device that
allows the computer to transmit and receive data
through telephone lines.
MPC
Multimedia PC.
An equipment standards
specification (minimum performance) for personal
computers. It was created by the Multimedia PC
Marketing Council, and currently consists of two
standards—MPC Level 1 and MPC Level 2. The
SoundWave 32 provides support for both standards.
multimedia
Communicating information in digi-
tal and electronic form. Includes the use of text,
audio, graphics, animated graphics and full-motion
video.
multi-session Photo CD
A format that allows
you to view photos stored on a CD-ROM.
MT32
Multi-Timbral 32. A Roland sound standard
used by most game developers to score original
music. All the sound effects are stored on the sound
tracks.

Object Linking and Embedding (OLE)
A protocol
designed by Microsoft for copying and sharing infor-
mation between applications.

PCM
Pulse Code Modulation.
The process of
changing analog sound waves into digital informa-
tion and back again.
