7.2.3 Bridge
Timeout
Network bridges operate at the physical network layer. The purpose of a bridge is to connect
two or more networks and enable packet sharing between them. Bridges are different from
routers because they forward packets based on physical addresses, whereas routers use IP
address to forward packets.
Bridges must learn all the physical (MAC) addresses of the devices so it can forward the
packets reliably. The purpose of the
Bridge MAC Table
is to store and display these bridge-
recognized MAC addresses. This page contains information that is dynamic and will refresh
every 8 seconds.
Follow the steps below to access and configure the
Bridge Timeout
page.
Step 1:
To access
Bridge Timeout
, click the
Advanced
link located at the top right-hand
side of the page.
Step 2:
Click
Bridge Timeout
on the left menu. The
Bridge MAC Table
page
appears:
Step 3:
There is only one field to populate in the
Bridge MAC Table.
Enter the number of
seconds for the
Aging Timeout
field.
This field allows you to enter the update period for the MAC table. Make the number
lower if you wish to have a more frequent refresh rate.
The range for the
Aging Timeout
field is 0 - 32767. The default is set to
300
.
Step 4:
Click the
Submit
button to complete the configuration.
