High blood glucose results
Re-test the blood glucose.
If the result is EXTREME HIGH GLUCOSE again, this
indicates a severe problem with the patient’s blood glucose control. Follow your
institution’s policy regarding treatment of hyperglycemia.
When the blood glucose result is shown as EXTREME HIGH GLUCOSE, it means the
result is over 33.3 mmol/L.
Repeated unexpected blood glucose results
If you get repeated, unexpected results, check the meter with control solution. See Performing a control
solution test, pages 22-39. Also, check the list of interfering substances (see page 42).
High/Low Hematocrit
A hematocrit result that is either very high (above 60%) or very low (below 20%) can also cause false
results.
