Lancing Devices
A single-use, retractable-needle lancing device should be used for each patient skin puncture. Dispose of
single-use lancing devices in an appropriate biohazard sharps container immediately after use.
A lancing device is not supplied as part of this kit.
NOTE:
• The single-use lancing device is for getting a capillary whole blood sample only.
• Follow your institution’s policy for collecting venous and arterial whole blood samples.

Health care professionals should follow their institution’s policy and procedure guidelines for hand
hygiene. In addition, follow the Centers for Disease Control recommendations

regarding hand hygiene
and the use of disposable gloves when performing glucose testing on patients.
