Interpreting unexpected test results
Refer to the following cautions whenever blood glucose results are higher or lower than what you expect.

CAUTION
Low blood glucose results
This may require immediate treatment.
Although this message could be due to a
test error, it is safer to treat first and then do another test. Follow your institution’s
policy regarding treatment of hypoglycemia.
If the blood glucose result is shown as EXTREME LOW GLUCOSE, it means the result
is below 1.1 mmol/L.
Dehydration and low blood glucose results
Results may be falsely low if the patient is severely dehydrated.
