280 Chapter 37 Hardware procedures
241-7401-240 5.2S1
•
When connecting cables in a spared configuration, complete the main
connections first, and then the spare connections.
•
For specific FP cabling diagrams, see 241-7401-242 Passport 7400 FP
Cabling Specifications.
Procedure steps
1
If you want to connect customer equipment cables directly to an FP,
connect one end of each cable to the faceplate of the FP and the other to
the customer equipment. See the figure “Connecting and disconnecting
cables” (page 282). Otherwise, perform step 2 to step 8.
2
If you are using a termination panel, connect the cables for a main FP to
the termination panel.
CAUTION
Risk of equipment damage
When engaging or disengaging MT-RJ cable connectors,
ensure that the cable connector’s guide ridge is aligned
with the transceiver’s keyway. Improper coupling can
damage the nose shield on the connector or the optic
transceiver.
CAUTION
Risk of equipment damage
Ensure the cable pins are not shorted together or to any
metal surface. When connected to an on-line Passport
shelf assembly, these cables can carry power signals
(+12 Vdc) that are used to supply power to the
termination panel.
Do not bend the pins when you attach the cable to the
connector.
CAUTION
Risk of equipment damage
To avoid damaging equipment, always connect the cable
to the termination panel before you connect it to the
function processor.
