WARNING: Make sure you ground all electrically conductive
equipment. Ungrounded conductive equipment can store a
static charge that could ignite a fire or cause an explosion if a
hot spark is discharged. Failure to observe this warning may
result in personal injury, death, or equipment damage.
Problem Possible Cause Corrective Action
1. Poor coating material
transfer efficiency
Work pieces not grounded properly Make sure work pieces are grounded
with 0 − 300 ohms maximum resistance.
Poor formulation of coating material Check coating material. If necessary,
have the supplier reformulate coating
material.
Power supply defective Refer to power supply manual.
Low output from power supply Check power supply output (refer to
power supply manual).
2. Incorrect coating material
atomization because of
low or no turbine speed
V to P transducer (in pneumatic
panel) with booster for turbine speed
not functioning properly
Replace V to P transducer.
V to P transducer for turbine speed
not receiving 0 − 5 VDC signal
Check speed-control connections.
Replace the speed-control circuit board
assembly, the 8-ft extension cable, or
the 50-ft cable.
Turbine air bearings worn or plugged Clean or replace turbine. Replace
bearings, thrust plate, or both on turbine.
Air supply to turbine restricted Check flexibility of pneumatic tubing.
Water in air lines Clean or replace the three air filters
located at the pneumatic control panel.
RA-16 rotary atomizer cup out of
balance or damaged
Replace cup if damaged. Clean cup if
there is coating material build-up.
Coating material backed up into
turbine
Decrease fluid flow rate. Replace,
clean, or rebuild turbine.
3. No turbine speed signal kV through the speed control isolation
housing
Replace speed-sensor housing.
Replace circuit board assembly, if
necessary.
Circuit board on the speed control
failed
Replace speed-sensor circuit board
assembly.
Safe circuit on the speed control
circuit board has failed
Replace speed-sensor circuit board
assembly.
