This subsection provides instructions for repairing the side (paint, solvent,
or dump) and front-end valves.
NOTE: If coating material is leaking between the ball and seat, replace
the entire valve.
To repair the side valves, follow these steps:
1. Complete steps 1 through 6 in Disassembling the RA-16 Rotary
Atomizer earlier in this section.
2. Complete steps 2 and 3 in Replacing the Paint, Solvent, or Dump
Valves earlier in this section.
3. See Figure 7-7. Unscrew the valve adjustment cap (8) and remove it
from the valve body (5).
4. Remove the spring (7).
5. Pull out the valve assembly (6).
6. Unscrew the gland nut (2) with a

16
-in. allen wrench. After you
disengage the threads, use pliers to remove the nut.
7. Remove the spring seal (4) and the O-rings (1, 3).
8. Install a new spring seal (4) and replace the O-rings (1, 3). Make
sure to coat the spring seal and the O-rings with O-ring lubricant.
9. Screw the gland nut (1) back into the valve body (5).
10. Reinstall the valve assembly (6) and the spring (7).
11. Thread the valve adjustment cap (8) back into the valve body (5) until
it bottoms out, then unscrew it

of a turn.
12. Reconnect the weep hole tubing.
13. Reconnect the valve cartridge to the valve plate with two plastic
(non-conductive) screws.
NOTE: The valve cartridge only goes in one way.
