Bearing Air
CAUTION:
Operating the air turbine with dirty air or without the
specified bearing air pressure will lead to premature turbine
failure and voids all warranties.
The RA-16 rotary atomizer uses air bearings within the turbine. The
bearing air allows the turbine shaft to spin at high speeds on a cushion of
air. Bearing life is infinite as long as the bearing air is
clean
and
dry
,
with
99.99% of 0.1 micron contaminants removed.
NOTE:
Nordson recommends an independent air filter for bearing air.
Brake Air
The operator can use brake air to slow or stop the turbine shaft rotation
by reversing the counterclockwise rotation of the turbine shaft. Because
the air bearings are nearly frictionless, using brake air reduces turbine
stopping time.
Vector Air
Adjusting the vector air on the pneumatic panel allows you to control the
size of the fan pattern. When you increase the vector air, the pattern size
decreases. Increasing the vector air often makes it possible to penetrate
recessed areas of a part. However, high amounts of vector air can
reduce transfer efficiency.
On a waterborne system, the Iso-Flo system provides electrostatically
charged coating material to the RA-16 rotary atomizer.
Paint, solvent, or other coating materials can be delivered through the
RA-16 rotary atomizer from internal triggering valves. Non-conductive
tubing that is compatible with the coating material supplies the material to
and from the RA-16 rotary atomizer. The tubing and fittings dictate the
maximum fluid pressures.
Paint, solvent, or other coating materials flow into a common fluid tube
and into the back of the cup through a replaceable nozzle. This allows
the cup to be cleaned quickly without removal.
