CAUTION
Do not install both the NEC SNMP Agent and LANDesk
Client Manager on the same computer.
1.
Close all open applications before installing the NEC SNMP Agent.
2.
Insert the NEC Select Install CD into the CD-ROM drive. Click
Cancel
when prompted.
3.
Click
Start
on the taskbar, point to and click
Run
, and type
E:\NECUtil\NEC_SNMP\setup.exe
where
E:
is the CD-ROM drive.
4.
Click
OK
and follow the prompts to install the software.
Configuring the NEC SNMP Agent for Windows 95/Windows 98
The SNMP Agent is configured with the Windows 95 Policy Editor. The Policy
Editor configures the traps, communities, and other policies.
Use the Policy Editor to configure the traps, communities, and other policies as
follows.
1.
In the Windows taskbar, click
Start
, and point to Programs, Accessories,
and System Tools. Click
System Policy Editor
.
2.
At the “System Policy Editor,” click
File
and point to
Open Registry
.
Double click
Local Computer
.
3.
Expand Network and expand SNMP to display the list of policies. The
policies are:
Communities — Specifies one or more groups of hosts that this
computer belongs to and that can be managed with SNMP.
Permitted Managers — Limits the set of SNMP management
applications that can access this computer to those with the IP or IPX
addresses that the user provides.
Traps for “Public” Community — Limits the set of computers that
receive traps from this computer to those with the IP or IPX addresses
that the user provides.
