Upgrading Your System
Installing an Option Board
Install an option board as follows.
1.
Observe the safety and ESD precautions listed at the beginning of this
chapter.
2.
Power off the system. Ensure the power cords are unplugged from the AC
wall outlet.
3.
Remove the option board cover. See
Removing the Option Board Cover
earlier in this chapter.
4.
Remove the option board from its protective wrapper, holding the board
only by the edges. Do not touch the board components or the gold
connectors.
Note:
Observe static precautions. Use an antistatic
wrist strap.
5.
Record the option board serial number in the equipment log.
6.
Set any board jumpers or switches as described in the documentation that
comes with the option board.
7.
See Figure 4-15 to determine the system board slot location and remove its
connector cap.
Note:
Save the connector cap removed from the PCI
board slot for future use.
8.
Swing open the hinge bracket, as shown in Figure 4-16.
