Upgrading Your System
!
If installing an optional processor, and the heat sink is not attached,
attach it to the processor with the five screws provided in the option kit.
!
If installing an optional processor, and it does not have latches, attach
one at each end of the cartridge.
Latches may be included with the optional processor or you can
remove the latches from the terminator board.
Slightly spread open each latch. Use care to prevent latch breakage.
Position the latch so that the two pins on the latch fit into the two pin
holes at the corners of the cartridge.
!
Open the latches on the cartridge or board and align the device with the
retention module and connector slot.
If installing a processor cartridge, align it so that the heat sink faces
down.
If installing a terminator board, align it so that the open side of the
circuit board faces up.
!
Slide the processor cartridge or terminator board into the retention
module until resistance is felt.
Note:
While pushing the processor into its socket make
sure it goes through three steps. The Processor is gradually
inserted into the socket each time it is pressed, which is one
step. It is firmly seated in the socket after going through
three steps.
Continue sliding the device into the module until it seats.
You should hear three distinct clicks as it seats in the module and
connector.
Check that the device is firmly seated.
7.
Lock the processor cartridge or terminator board in place by positioning the
retention lockwires over the latches and pushing the latches down.
8.
Replace the processor cooling baffle (see “Removing or Installing the
Cooling Baffle” earlier in this section) removed earlier in these procedures.
9.
Set the processor frequency using the appropriate jumpers on the processor
speed jumper block located on the on the system board (see
Configuring
System Jumpers
in Chapter 3).
10.
Replace the option board cover; plug in the system power cord(s), and
power up the system.
