The following displays a portion of the command line for
configuring a root password:
OS2400# linux
[admin@OS]# su
Password:
***********************************************
*** BEWARE, YOU ARE SUPERUSER! ***
*** ANY CHANGES IN SYSTEM CONFIGURATION ***
*** MAY SEROULSY DAMAGE THE ROUTER! ***
***********************************************
[root@os]# passwd
New UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
Passed: all authentication tokens updated successfully
[root@os}#]
NOTE:
The root password should not be written down or revealed to unauthorized users in
order to prevent damage or unwanted changes to the operating system.
You can log in as a root user only from the terminal and not from a Telnet session.
To configure the root password at the system login:

Connect the terminal to the serial port.

Type
root
at the system login to enter the Technical Expert
access level.

At the prompt, enter the current root password.
Password: root_
password
The superuser warning is displayed, as shown in Step 3 above.

Enter and re-enter your new password. The password is
authenticated.
