What Can OptiSwitch-2400 Do for You?
The OptiSwitch-2400/L3 is a multi-faceted system that acts as a
switch router, IP security platform and network backbone. It is
capable of performing traffic engineering up to Layer 4 and
facilitating high-speed network connections for service providers.
The two principal functions of the OptiSwitch-2400/L3 are to
provide IP routing functionality, as well as, IP segmentation for
security and performance purposes.
Routing Function
The OptiSwitch-2400/L3 is capable of processing 35.7 million
packets per second. The router supports routing protocols such as
RIP I and II, OSPF,BGP4, together with functionality of networking
protocols and applications such as VRRP, DHCP, DHCP relay server
and DiffServ.
Backbone Management and Routing
The OptiSwitch-2400/L3 provides full routing functionality. With the
usage of the Linux based routing controller module and Layer-3
modules, high density routing interfaces can be provisioned in a
single system. The combination of a modular high-density and
powerful switch router with an extremely high capacity makes the
OptiSwitch-2400/L3 the ideal Enterprise backbone system. In the
enterprise LAN, the OptiSwitch-2400/L3 provide routing
functionality, as well as, IP segmentation for security and
performance purposes.
The OptiSwitch™ routing architecture is based on the system’s
powerful Layer 2-5 ASICs, which are capable of performing frame
header lookups at wire speed. This switch router hardware
components perform the IP traffic forwarding, while the routing
protocols are performed in the routing controller module. This
routing controller is based on the Intel architecture , which runs the
Linux Operating System. The Routing controller is connected to the
Forwarding components through the backplane matrix.
The routing architecture is such, that the routing tables are stored
in the Ingress port, which is the incoming port. The switching
engine’s hardware performs the forwarding of the frame to the
Egress (destination) port through the backplane matrix.
