Perform this operation again on other two adjuster nuts (21-22) located at 120°. If the brake is equipped with 6
brake adjusters (19), the airgap has to be initially adjusted just on 3 tied rods located at 120°. Only once this
operation is completed on the first 3 adjusters then it’s possible to move on the remaining 3 adjusters by operating
the nuts (21) to lean against the brake coil, hence tightening the upper locknuts against the brake coil.
-
For the final tightening it’s always recommended to operate the underneath nut (21) first, then the top locknut (22).
-
Check the airgap: if the airgap is properly adjusted, the feeler gauge
with a thickness corresponding to the lower value of the allowed
range will easily enter the gap between the two magnetic cores of
the brake coil and the brake moving element. Now use an upper size
feelers gauge (0.1-0.15 thicker compared to the one previously used)
to make sure that it doesn’t enter the gap. It is important to check
the air gap in three different spots located at 120° next to the brake
adjusters (19). The air gap must be uniform all around the brake coil.
-
If the airgap check is successfully completed it means that the airgap is properly set to the lower value of the
indicated airgap range on table 1. It could be necessary to perform again the above steps in order to properly set the
airgap.
Once the air gap adjustment is completed, make sure that the nuts (21-22) are tightened on each brake adjuster.
If one of the nuts was not properly set during the process it will be necessary to check the airgap again.
-
Insert the brake cover (26) back in its position.
Make sure that the brake coil cables and connectors are properly
positioned under the brake cover between the brake coil and the moving element in order not to have them
dragging on the brake disc (23).
-
Insert and tighten the brake cover (26) via the brake cover locknut (125).
-
Check the proper functioning of the brake: make sure that when powering the motor and the brake, the brake disc is free
to rotate.
-
Check the proper functioning of the brake coil: when powering the brake, the brake coil (25) should attract the brake
moving element (24) with a quick stroke, and hold it without any vibration or noise.
In case of any vibration, check the following:
-
Terminals are properly connected;
-
The airgap is set properly set and uniform;
-
There are no foreign bodies including dust in the brake;
-
Brake springs are properly compressed;
-
The brake is powered to the right voltage.
ATTENTION: The airgap value must remain in the range shown in table 1, in order to avoid any possible damage to the
brake assembly.
Brake hand release (locking type)
Unscrew the two plugs (130) on the brake cover (see the photograph).
