General safety information

During  operation,  motors  have  live  or  moving  parts.  Therefore,  removal  of  electrical  or  mechanical  guards,  improper
use, or inadequate maintenance may cause serious damage to persons or property.

Installation,  Maintenance,  Adjustment  and  Replacement  operations  of  components  must  be  carried  out  by  qualified
personnel, using proper tools and working instruments. It is necessary to read carefully these instructions to ensure the
proper use under safe conditions of the M.G.M. motor. The personnel in contact with the motor must always use the
proper personal means of protection established by the regulations in force in the country of destination.

Installation,  Maintenance,  Adjustment  and  Replacement  operations  of  components  must  be  carried  out  having
previously  verified  that  the  motor  or  plant  is  disconnected  from  the  supply  line  and  that  there  is  no  voltage  left  on
board terminals.

Avoid contact with the motor case since the temperature under normal operating conditions may exceed 50°C.

In case of ineffective braking or during maintenance or replacement operations of components, check that no load is
applied to the driveshaft.

Receipt and Storage

When receiving the motor, it is essential to check that all the characteristics shown on the motor nameplate correspond
to those requested, and that the motor has not been damaged during transportation. Any damage must be pointed out
to the carrier immediately.

The eyebolts are designed to bear the weight of the motor alone and therefore no additional loads should be added.
Check that the eyebolts are undamaged before lifting. Ensure that proper lifting equipment is used and that the sizes of
the hooks are suitable for the lifting eyes. If necessary, use suitable rated transport materials such as lifting straps.

Motors  must  be  stored  in  a  sheltered,  dry  and  dust-free  place.  case  of  prolonged  storage  a  special  anti-corrosion
treatment must be carried out on all those unprotected surfaces of the motors like flanges, shaft ends etc.

The motor packaging material can be hazardous. It must be immediately disposed according to the national standard in
order to prevent not authorized personnel to handle (i.e. children).

Installation

Installation operations must be carried out by qualified personnel, using proper tools and working instruments.

Before  starting  the  installation,  be  sure  that  the  motor  expected  characteristics  match  the  ones  shown  on  the  motor
nameplate,  with  special  care  to  the  motor  voltage  supply  and  to  the  brake  torque.  Be  sure  that  the  braking  torque
provided by the brake assembly is suitable for the intended application.

BAH series does not include motors suitable for hazardous. Misapplication of a motor in a hazardous environment can
cause fire or explosions and hence resulting in serious injuries.

Please verify that the brake type is suitable for the application and complies with standards or regulations in force on
the machine on which the motor will be incorporated. Verify that the intended application does require a motor of
the  -K  or  -PK  series  (eg.  lifting,  safety  applications,  cranes  and  so  on).  For  further  details  pls  contact  MGM  motori
elettrici SpA.
