If the vehicle still does not start, one of the fol‐
lowing display messages appears in the multi‐
function display:

Place the key in the marked space See Own-
er's Manual : start the vehicle in emergency
operation mode (

Key not detected Place smartphone in charg-
ing bracket : place the mobile phone in the
marked space (
/
page 126).
You can switch off the engine while driving by
pressing button 1 for about three seconds or
by pressing button 1 three times within a sec‐
ond. Be sure to observe the safety notes under
"Driving tips".
Starting the vehicle with a Digital Vehicle
Key
Requirements:

one of the following versions of the Digital
Vehicle Key is available:

suitable mobile phone
-
Digital Vehicle Key sticker
R
the vehicle is equipped with the "Digital Vehi‐
cle Key" function.

the "Digital Vehicle Key" function is activated
via Mercedes me connect: http://
www.mercedes.me.
R
the mobile phone is sufficiently charged.
% You can check the suitability of your mobile
phone by entering the phone number at

Information about suitable mobile phones
can be obtained from your Mercedes-Benz
Service Centre or at http://www.mercedes-
benz.com/connect.
% Mercedes-Benz recommends that you carry
the emergency key in case of function
restrictions.
% The function is only available in combination
with Mercedes me connect and only in cer‐
tain countries.
% Protective cases around the mobile phone
can impair the functionality.
Using the Digital Vehicle Key for the first
time

Deactivate the key 2 (

page 77).

Place key 2 in marked space 3 on the
symbol 4 .

Place the mobile phone or Digital Vehicle Key
sticker in the marked space 1 .

Start the vehicle using the start/stop button.
