
7 Troubleshooting
This section contains information on frequent issues and ways to troubleshoot them.
7.1 Unknown IP address
In the event that the IP address of a device is unknown, the following procedure can be used to retrieve it:
The IP address of the LCD panel device can be viewed and changed using the LCD panel interface. Refer to the
Network Config
section for details.
7.2 Unexpected reboots
If the device is rebooting unexpectedly (detectable on routers when the routing state gets reset to preset 0),
make sure the correct power supply is being used with the device (5 Volt 2 Amp).
7.3 Device fails to startup – Failsafe boot instructions
In the event that a software update is interrupted or other system data corruption occurs, the MSC-GCP2U32
may not startup. This device comes with a backup version of the system software, which can be used to repair a
broken system by doing a software update.
Failsafe startup instructions
1. Connect a serial cable to a computer with an RS-232 serial port (or use a USB to serial adapter if the
computer is not natively equipped with one) using a D9 female to female straight through cable.
2. Start up a serial terminal application (such as Hyperterminal on Microsoft Windows systems) and
configure it for the proper serial hardware port and the serial settings 115200 Baud, 8N1.
3. Power up the MSC-GCP2U32 device (or power cycle it if it is already running).
4. After a few seconds the serial console should display the u-boot boot loader startup sequence and
prompt to press a key to enter u-boot shell.
5. Press a key (such as the space bar) to go to the u-boot shell. If the prompt goes by too fast, power cycle
again and press a key within the short time window when prompted, until the serial console shows the
u-boot prompt.
6. Type the following command to boot the failsafe software image
run failsafe
The device should boot successfully and allow for a software update in order to repair a broken system. After
performing a software update, reboot and allow the device to startup normally. System should now be working
