Connecting a Dialup Modem to the Chassis
The following procedure requires the following items to dial-in to the
PSAX 4500 chassis:
•
External 9600-baud dialup modem
•
Phone line and telephone number
•
Laptop computer with a dialup modem and terminal emulator package at
the local site
•
Workstation with a dialup modem and terminal emulator package at the
remote site
To perform this operation, the chassis must be installed and operational. Per-
form the following procedure to setup and connect the PSAX 4500 chassis to
a dialup modem.

At the local site, place the modem near the chassis, connect the laptop to
the serial port on the modem, and connect the phone line to the phone
connection.

Plug the power adapter into the modem and power source.

Set the following parameters on the modem:
DTR on, DCD on, CTS on, 8-bit character length, 9600 baud, no parity,
and no echo.

Verify that the modem can be dialed into through the phone line from
the remote workstation.

Remove the laptop from the modem and connect the modem to the
CON-
SOLE
connector on the CPU2 module with the RJ-12-to-RJ-12 cable and
RJ-12-to-DB9 or RJ-12-to-DB25 adapter.

Verify that the modem can be dialed into again and the login prompt
from the chassis appears at the remote workstation.
