8. Signal Flow and Processing
8.1 Signal Flow
Figure 8.1 is a graphic presentation of the signal flow inside a PLM. As is readily apparent, the PLM is an
unusually sophisticated system comprising many different subsections of both digital and analog technolo-
gies. To realize the full potential of the PLM, it is important to understand the possibilities and limitations
within the system, with particular regard to the multiple points for muting as well as adjustment of gain or
attenuation.
8.1.1 Level adjustments
Because of the full integration of the Lake processing, the PLM offers five separate points in the signal chain
where signal level can be adjusted. It is critical to grasp the significance of the various level adjustments in
order to obtain optimum audio performance. Numbers refer to points in the signal flow diagram.
Users may adjust the input levels to, and the output levels from, the Lake Processing system (MODULE
input
and MODULE output ). The PLM power stage gain may be adjusted as well. All three adjust-
ments can be made from either the front panel display or the Lake Controller software.
The per-channel attenuation can only be made from the front panel by selecting MENU > MODULE >
ATTENUATION.
