6.2 Installing the fax driver 6
Installation (USB connection)
To use Windows 7/8.1/10/Server 2008 R2/Server 2012/Server 2012 R2 via USB connection, you need to
change the computer settings in advance.
Changing the installation settings
(Windows 7/8.1/10/Server 2008 R2/Server 2012/Server 2012 R2)

Open the [Control Panel] window.

In Windows 8.1/10/Server 2012/Server 2012 R2, press the [X] key while pressing the [Windows] key,
and click [Control Panel] when a menu is displayed.
% In Windows 7/Server 2008 R2, open the Start menu, then click [Control Panel].

Click [System and Security] - [System].

Click [Advanced system settings] on the menu in the left-hand pane.
The [System Properties] window appears.

In the [Hardware] tab, click [Device Installation Settings].

Select [No, let me choose what to do], select [Never install driver software from Windows Update.], then
click [Save Changes].
% When you have finished installing the fax driver, change the setting back to [Yes, do this automati-
cally (recommended)].

Click [OK] to close the [System Properties] window.
Installation procedure

Check that this machine is not connected to a computer using a USB cable.

Do not connect a USB cable to this machine until a connection instruction message appears in the
screen.

Insert the fax driver CD/DVD-ROM into the CD/DVD-ROM drive of the computer.

Open the [PCFAX_driver] folder on the CD/DVD-ROM, and double-click [Setup.exe].
% If a wizard screen is displayed to add a new hardware product, click [Cancel].

Depending on the settings on the computer, the UAC (User Account Control) dialog box may ap-
pear. Check the details, and continue.

Select a desired language, and click [OK].
The fax driver installer starts.

Click [Next].

To agree to all terms in the license agreement, click [I accept the terms of the License Agreement] and
click [Next].

Select the model of this machine, select [USB], and click [Next].
Installation starts.

If the message [Please plug the USB to connect PC and device.] appears, connect this machine and
the computer using a USB cable.
Installation is continued.

In the completion dialog box, click [Finish].
