7.11 Bicycle trailer
There is a big variety of bicycle trailers to transport children or
heavy loads.
When you buy the trailer, observe that it complies with the
traffic regulations and that you never exeed the permissible
maximum weight. Respect the trailer manufacturers user
manual during assembly and use of the trailer.
Pratice riding with a loaded trailer before you use it in open
traffic.
Caution: The stopping distance of your bike will be
lengthened with the additional load the and the
range of your batteries will be shortened.
8. Transport of the Pedelec
You can transport your Pedelec easily by car or train. To trans
-
port by car, we recommend to use a bike rack for the trailer
hitch, which is specificly designed for the e-bike transport and
suitable for larger loads. Which carriers comply with these
requirements, you can ask the retailer.
Not recommended is the transport on the car roof. The higher
weight and the specially shaped frame tubes make it very
difficult to fasten the bike securely. In addition, permissible
maximum weight and to tightly sized brackets and rails of the
carrier limit secure transportation.
You should definitely remove before transportation with the
battery, the display as well as other non-fixed accessories such
as: Air pump and luggage bags Additional protection should
be given to electrical contacts on the display holder and the
battery connector on the frame with for example a plastic bag
to protect them from moisture and rain. By the air stream,
humidity can be pressed into the electrical contacts.
If your car is big enough, the best is to transport it in the insi
-
de. There it is optimally protected.
The transportation by air is almost impossible, unless you want
to transport the bike without the battery. The battery is classi
-
fied as hazardous by the airlines and will not be transported. If
in individual cases ask the airlines, under which circumstances
the transport of the battery may be possible. However, it can
be quite expensive.
If you need further information, you will find it in this manual,
see chapter 6.4.4. Transport of the battery.
