Jøtul’s definition of quality wood
Good quality wood should be dried so that the water content
is approx. 20-25%.
To achieve that, the wood should be cut during late winter
or early spring, then cut and stacked to ensure proper airing
and covered to prevent it from absorbing rainwater. The
logs should be taken indoors in autumn for use during the
winter season.
With good quality firewood we mean logs of, for example:
Birch, beech and oak.
The amount of energy obtainable from of 1 kg of wood
varies very little. On the other hand the specific weight of
the different kinds of wood varies considerably. As an
example, a certain volume of birch will provide less kWh
than the same volume of oak, which has a higher specific
weight.
The amount of energy produced by 1 kg quality wood is
about 3.8 kWh. 1 kg of completely dry wood (0 % humidity)
produces approximately 5 kWh, while wood with a humidity
level of 60% produces only around 1.5 kWh/kg.

Changing the burn plates (fig. 4)
1. First remove the side burn plates by lifting them up
slightly by aid of the cams on the bottom and pull them
out.
2. When the second side burn plate is taken out, be aware
that the back burn plate may then fall into the burn
chamber.
Support it so that it doesn't cause damage
.
3. Before reinstalling the burn plates, ensure that the
insulation is in place.
4. Start with the back burn plate. Support it while placing
the first side burn plate.
5. Then push the side burn plates into place. Lift them up
a little by the cams at the bottom of the plates. They
will then slide in place in the upper part of the burn
chamber. Push them towards the side wall at the bottom
so that they are locked in by the bottom edge.
Changing the air chamber (fig. 5)
1. Remove the burn plates (see separate section).
2. Unscrew the M8 screw underneath the middle of the
air chamber towards the back wall

3. Pull the air chamber forward so that the cam on either
side enters the vertical groove at the front of the burn
chamber. Edge it down and remove it through the door.
4. Before the air chamber is reinstalled, check that the
gasket is in place in its groove.
5. Edge the air chamber in through the door. Straighten it
up so that the cams slide in the vertical groove at the
front of the burn chamber.
6. Lift the chamber up and push it backwards in the burn
chamber until it is laying securely against the back wall.
7. Refasten the chamber with a M8 x 70 mm screw
(hexagon head).
Changing the baffle plate
1. To remove the baffle plate, first remove the air chamber.
See separate section.
2. Lift the baffle plate up at the back and push it back a
little. Then lift it down and out through the doors.
3. To reinstall the baffle plate, place the cams at the back
of the plate on the side ribs in the top of the fireplace.
4. Push the plate backwards, lift it up and pull it forward
so that it rests on the cam on the front of the top of the
fireplace.
Changing the heat shield and side
plates (fig. 7)
When changing the side plates, first remove the top plate
(A)
. The side plates are fastened to the rear plate with 8
screws. Unfastened the screws and remove the side plates.
When reinstalling, put the plates in the grooves on the
base plate

, and fasten them with the screws to the
rear plate.
Put the top plate on. Make sure the side plates
are inserted in the gap between the top and the nib on the
inside of the top

. Fasten the screws securely on the
back.
Changing the lower front plate (fig. 8)
When uninstalling,
tip the plate out at the top and lift it off
the base plate.
When installing,
first put the plate into the groove in the
base plate and wedge it in place at the top.
