Specifying G.821
performance settings
The following procedure describes how to configure bit error insertion.
To specify the G.821 performance settings

If you haven’t already done so, launch the Data Communication applica-
tion (see
“Launching the datacom application” on page 52
).

On the Configuration menu, select
G.821 Performance Settings
, and
then specify the path allocation percentage.
Enter a value, from
0.1
to
100
%, to indicate the percentage of the end-to-
end target values for ESR (Errored Seconds Ratio) and SESR (Severely
Errored Seconds Ratio) that must be met for the test path to be accept-
able. The end-to-end target values are based on the “Hypothetical Refer-
ence Configuration” (HRX) of length 27 500 km.
You have finished specifying the G.821 performance settings.
Specifying error settings
You can specify the number of bit errors to insert or the rate at which bit errors
are inserted.
To specify error settings

From the BERT menu, select
Error
.

, and then indicate how errors will be inserted:
– Single
– Multiple
– Rate

If you selected Multiple, select
Error Count
and then enter the number of
errors to be inserted, between 1 and 50.

If you selected Rate, select

nd then select the insertion rate.
You have finished specifying the error settings.
In-band Flow Control
If you are testing in asynchronous timing mode,
you can enable in-band flow control.
Select On to set in-band flow control; Off uses out-
of-band flow control.
In-band Xon
Specify the in-band flow control Xon character.
Enter a value using a decimal format. The
default value is 17.
In-band Xoff
Specify the in-band flow control Xoff character.
Enter a value using a decimal format. The
default value is 19.
