Removing the 3U chassis hard disk drive backplane
To remove the 3U chassis hard disk drive backplane, complete the following steps.
1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”
2. If the 3U chassis is installed in an iDataPlex rack, remove it (see “Removing a
3U chassis from a Type 7825 iDataPlex rack” on page 129).
3. Remove the top cover (see “Removing the 3U chassis top cover” on page 84).
4. Remove the fan assembly (see “Removing the 3U chassis fan assembly” on
5. Partially remove the system-board tray to disengage the power-supply
6. Pull the hard disk drives out of the server slightly to disengage them from the
hard disk drive backplane (see “Removing and installing a hard disk drive” on
page 88).
7. Remove the power-supply paddle card and the power supply (see “Removing
the 3U chassis power supply and power-supply paddle card” on page 131).
8. Disconnect the cables from the hard disk drive backplane, remove the ten
screws, and remove the hard disk drive backplane from the 3U chassis.
9. If you are instructed to return the hard disk drive backplane, follow all packaging
instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to
you.
