Note:
Live Partition Mobility (LPM) requires a Hardware Management Console (HMC) and PowerVM
Enterprise Edition.
You can use LPM to evacuate a server, however, you must first plan for the servers to which each
partition will move. You can list the partitions by its destination server in the migration plan. The HMC
provides a command to move (or validate a move of) a list of partitions to a (single) destination server.
You must understand the PowerVM compatibility mode in which each workload operates. For example, a
workload running in POWER7 compatibility mode can be hosted on either a POWER7 or a POWER8
®
server, but not on a POWER6
®
server. For more information about compatibility modes, see the IBM
PowerVM Redbooks
®
publication in Table 144.
Active Memory
™
Mirroring for Hypervisor
This feature is used by the PowerVM hypervisor to mirror critical memory within the hypervisor. The
POWER8 memory subsystem is capable of mirroring sections of memory by writing to two different
memory locations. When the subsystem is unable to read data from one location, an error is detected,
and the subsystem reads the data from the alternate location. A fault, even a solid uncorrectable error in
the data, can be tolerated by using this feature.
Note:
Active Memory Mirroring for Hypervisor is available on 9080-MHE, 9080-MME, 9119-MHE, and
9119-MME systems. For 8408-E8E systems, feature code (FC) EM81 must be ordered to use this feature.
For more information about Active Memory Mirroring for Hypervisor, see POWER8 RAS Whitepaper.

Learn how to plan for a high availability environment by using PowerHA SystemMirror.
PowerHA SystemMirror version 7 is a high-availability solution for AIX on Power Systems that provides
High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) capabilities that enable robust Business Continuity
solutions with POWER8 systems. The following key solutions are included in PowerHA SystemMirror for
