Appendix E: Using the IBM 5500 Utility Diskette
Shipped with your IBM 5500 control unit is a Utility diskette. This diskette
allows you to run several maintenance tasks, such as saving and restoring
your configuration.
Description of Utility Diskette Operations
The following is a list of utility diskette operations:
Retrieve Configuration. This operation copies the configuration file from
the 5500 control unit to the Utility diskette. Use this selection to save a
working configuration from one IBM 5500 Control Unit for use on another
5500 Control Unit of the same model.
Restore Configuration. This operation copies the configuration file from the
Utility diskette to the 5500 Control Unit. Use this selection if you replaced
the 5500 Control Unit hardware to restore your previously-saved
configuration.
Restore Factory Default Configuration. This operation returns your 5500
Control Unit to the factory default configuration settings. You must now
perform an initial configuration. See “Using the ConfigurationPlus
Program” on page 59. Use this selection if you can no longer access the
configuration.
Remove Password from IBM 5500. This operation removes the
Administrator password set during configuration of the IBM 5500 Control
Unit.
Steps to Prepare the Utility Diskette
Before you use the Utility diskette to boot your unit, follow these steps:
1. Make sure the write protect tab is closed (writable) on the diskette.
2. Configure the Utility diskette using a personal computer running MS-
DOS, IBM-DOS or any of the Microsoft Windows operating systems as
follows: From a DOS prompt enter:
a:\util
