Appendix D: Using the IBM 5250 Express TCP/IP Driver
Appendix D 175
TCP/IP Driver Installation Steps
If your machine contains one of the supported IBM 5250 adapters, place the
IBM 5250 Express TCP/IP Driver Diskette in the diskette drive and follow
these steps:
1. If you are using Windows NT or Windows 95/98 and a non- Plug and
Play IBM 5250 adapter, install the adapter, then enter the following com-
mand from a DOS prompt window: a:\setup.exe. This command launches
the install program.
2. Follow the instructions provided on the screen that directs you through
the complete setup. Also, read the instructions and messages displayed
during the installation.
If you are using Windows 95/98 and using a Plug and Play IBM 5250 Express
adapter in your machine for the first time, follow these steps:
1. Install the adapter and power on your system.
2. When the system prompts you for a driver, place the IBM 5250 Express
TCP/IP Driver diskette in the disk drive. From the list of available drives,
select the Driver provided by manufacturer. This step installs the drivers
necessary for your system, and automatically launches the IBM 5250
Express TCP/IP Driver Install program.
3. Follow the instructions provided on the screen, which directs you through
the complete setup. Also, read the instructions and messages presented
during the installation.
4. After the driver is successfully installed, reboot the system. Three short
beeps indicate a successful link with the 5500 Control Unit. See
“Reviewing Windows 95/98 Error Logs” on page 175 if you experience
problems with the TCP/IP connectivity or no beeps occur.
Reviewing Windows 95/98 Error Logs
The contents of the error log file ndislog.txt contains information regarding
errors with the IBM 5250 Express TCP/IP Driver. This file, ordinarily found
in the \Windows\System\ subdirectory, contains error messages from network
device drivers such as the IBM 5250 Express TCP/IP Driver. See “Example of
ndislog.txt” on page 176
