1. Insert the GBIC module into the port until its connector is firmly seated into the
appropriate port slot. The latch prongs will lock and prevent accidental removal
of the GBIC.
2. Go to “Verifying switch repair” on page 51.
Replacing a fan assembly
Replacing a fan assembly involves removing the existing fan assembly and
installing a new fan assembly.
Note: Always wear a wrist grounding strap when opening the switch cover to avoid
electrostatic discharge problems.
Tools that are required
You need a number 2 Phillips head screwdriver.
Removing a fan assembly
Note: Do not turn off power to the switch during this replacement. The switch can
safely continue to run while the fans are being replaced as follows:
v
Eight minutes at 23°C (73°F) at sea level (average conditions).
v
Two minutes at 40°C (104°F) at 3 km (9843 ft) altitude (extreme
conditions).
1. Unfasten the four captive screws as shown in Figure 20 with a number 2 Phillips
head screwdriver. These screws are accessible from the rear of the switch. Turn
the screws counterclockwise until the assembly is forced out (spring loaded).
2. Carefully pull the assembly away from the chassis rear panel.
