INSTALLING THE CAP ONTO THE SATELLITE ANTENNA DISH
You will set the antenna's elevation and polarization, which
you wrote down in this manual on page 4, before attaching the
azimuth/elevation (AZ/EL) cap to the antenna dish. As you set
them, refer to Figure 29. Note the cap has an arrow, labeled
“Top,” to show you how to orient the cap vertically. See the
illustration on the bottom of the next page.
1. Use a 1/2-inch socket wrench or open-end wrench to loosen
the four polarization nuts.
2. Refer to page 4 of this manual to find the elevation value.
3. Orient the cap assembly so that the “TOP” label is at the
upper right. The elevation bolt will also be at the right.
4. Use a 1/2-inch socket wrench or open-end wrench to loosen
the AZ/EL pivot bolt nut, bracket bolt nut, and elevation
nuts.
5. Using your fingers, retighten the four nuts until you cannot
tighten them further.
6. Still using your fingers, loosen each of the nuts one revolu-
tion.
7. Locate the red elevation reference mark on the elevation
scale on the left side of the cap assembly. See Figure 31 and
Figure 32 on the next page to help you locate the mark.
8. Use a 1/2-inch socket wrench or open-end wrench to turn
the elevation bolt head clockwise until the outer edge of the
mark is at the correct value. If the mark is initially resting at
an elevation value less than the one you obtained from
page 4, turn the elevation bolt head counterclockwise until
the outer edge of the mark is at the correct value. Note that
about one revolution is required to move the red mark
one degree. You may need to turn the bolt head a num-
ber of times until the red elevation mark reaches the cor-
rect value.
9. When the red mark is at the correct elevation value, tighten
the bracket bolt nut and the two elevation nuts. Do not
tighten the elevation pivot bolt nut.
10. Refer to page 4 to find the polarization value.
11. Locate the polarization scale. It is at the top of the AZ/EL
cap (see Figure 39).
12. Turn the AZ/EL to the correct polarization value. Align the
mark on the top of the AZ/EL with the correct value on the
polarization scale. See Figure 32 which shows a setting of
positive 3 degrees.
13. When the polarization is at the correct value, tighten the
four polarization nuts. As you tighten, make sure the polar-
ization remains at the proper value.
