11. If you are installing the brace kit, go to the next section.
Otherwise, tighten the two adjustment nuts with a torque
wrench to 15 ft.-lbs.
Note: The mast must be plumb before you can proceed. If you cannot
plumb the mast, repeat the steps above or find another installation
site.
INSTALLING THE BRACE KIT
You can choose to install the brace kit for added stability. Do
not install the mounting plates within 12 inches of any discon-
tinuous surface, or within 2 inches of any mortar joints. The
vertical markings on Figures 31 through 33 are not meant to
represent studs, but rather are guides to help you visualize
keeping the strut mounting plates square.
1. Slip the short 18-inch strut collar over the mast until it fits
snugly.
2. Re-plumb the mast.
3. Position the strut mounting plate above the mast and base
plate so the two mounting plate screw holes are exactly in
line vertically with the mast base plate top and bottom cen-
ter holes (see Figure 23).
4. Mark the two strut mounting plate screw holes on the con-
5. Holding the mounting plate steady, use a 1/4-inch masonry
drill to drill two 1/4-inch x 3-inch holes. Clean out the holes
with a blow out bulb.
6. With the bolt flush to the top of the nut, tap a 1/4-inch x
2-1/4-inch sleeve anchor to drive it into the top center hole
of the mounting plate.
7. Use a torque wrench to tighten the anchor to 5 ft.-lbs.
8. Verify that the mast is still plumb and adjust if necessary.
9. Repeat steps 6 through 8 for the bottom center hole.
10. Plumb the mast.
11. Slip the long 25-inch strut collar over the mast until it fits
snugly.
12. Position the strut so that its mounting plate center holes are
immediately to the left (or to the right if you prefer). The
strut should be at approximately a 90° angle. If you can’t
achieve a 90° angle, place the strut so that you achieve as
close to a 90° angle as you can (see Figure 25).
13. Repeat steps 4 through 9 for the 25-inch strut mounting
plate.
14. Plumb the mast and use a torque wrench to tighten the two
adjustment nuts to 15 ft.-lbs.
Note: The mast must be plumb before you can proceed. If you cannot
plumb the mast, repeat the steps above or find another installation
site.
