9.1 Preventing Electrostatic Discharge
The static electricity on fingers or other electrical conductors may damage the
mainboard or other electrostatic-sensitive devices and shorten the product life.
Observe the following:
●
Place unused products into ESD bags to prevent direct contact with humans
during transportation and storage.
●
Before products arrive at an ESD area, store them in their own packages.
●
Place the product package on a grounded surface before taking out the
product.
●
Do not touch pins or circuits.
9.2 Grounding Methods
Use one or more of the following grounding methods when handling electrostatic-
sensitive components:
●
Use a wrist strap that connects to a grounded workplace or server chassis.
The wrist strap must be elastic and the cable resistance must be at least 1
MΩ (±10%). Ensure that the wrist strap makes maximum contact with bare
skin.
●
Use heel straps, toe straps, or boot straps in standing workplaces. Wear the
straps on both feet when standing on conductive floors or dissipating floor
mats.
●
Use conductive maintenance tools.
●
Use a portable maintenance kit with a folding static-dissipating work mat.
