Fault-Tolerant LAN Configuration
Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that you use a fault-tolerant LAN configuration for
NS2100 systems. A fault-tolerant configuration includes these connections to two maintenance
switches as shown in
.
•
Two system consoles (one to each maintenance switch).
•
Connect the VIO enclosure for the X fabric to one of the maintenance switches and the VIO
enclosure for the Y fabric to the other maintenance switch via the ME ENET ports on the
VIO enclosures.
•
Connect one Ethernet port in each VIO enclosure via ENET slot 6b, port A to use the OSM
Service Connection and OSM Notification Director (this connection is optional if you are
implementing your dedicated service LAN through IP or Telco CLIMs).
•
For every CLIM pair, connect the iLO and eth0 ports of the primary CLIM to one maintenance
switch, and the iLO and eth0 ports of the backup CLIM to the second maintenance switch.
◦
For IP or Telco CLIMs the primary and backup CLIMs are defined, based on the
CLIM-to-CLIM failover configuration.
◦
For Storage CLIMs, the primary and backup CLIMs are defined, based on the disk path
configuration
NOTE:
For more information about CLIM-to-CLIM failover, see the
Cluster I/O Protocols
(CIP) Configuration and Management Manual
.
•
If CLIMs are used to configure the maintenance LAN, connect the CLIM that configures
$ZTCP0 to one maintenance switch, and connect the other CLIM that configures $ZTCP1
to the second maintenance switch.
•
Connect the iLO MP LAN ports for each blade element.
•
Connect the NIC1 port for each blade element.
•
Connect the NIC3 port for each blade element.
•
Connect one maintenance switch to the other maintenance switch.
•
Connect each maintenance switch to an extension bar on the left rear side of the modular
cabinet.
CAUTION:
To avoid possible conflicts on the LAN:
For two maintenance switches, install and configure one switch completely, including
assigning its IP address, before you install the other.
Only one connection between the maintenance switches is permitted. More than one
connection overloads network traffic, rendering the dedicated service LAN unusable.
If VIO enclosures will have static IP addresses, configure one completely, including assigning
the IP address, before you configure the other.
