on the VIO enclosure and IP or Telco CLIMs provide high-speed Ethernet links to communication
LANs.
Processor ID Assignment for the Blade Element
Each blade element contains one processor element. The maintenance entity (ME) firmware
running in the VIO enclosure assigns a number to each processor element based on its connection
from the blade element to the ServerNet-to-processor ports in slots 14.1 through 14.4 (processors
0 through 3). Therefore, fiber-optic cable connections from the blade elements to the
ServerNet-to-processor ports on the VIO enclosure determine the processor number of each
blade element.
SAS Ports to SAS Disk Enclosures
SAS disk enclosures can be connected directly to the two HBA SAS ports on a Storage CLIM.
The four SAS disk enclosures connected to DL380 G6 or DL380p Gen8 CLIMs cannot be
daisy-chained. For more information, see
“Storage CLIM Devices” (page 74)
.
SAS Ports to SAS Tape Devices
SAS tape devices have one SAS port that can be directly connected to the HBA SAS port on a
Storage CLIM. Each SAS tape enclosure supports two tape drives. With a SAS tape drive
connected to the system, you can use the BACKUP and RESTORE utilities to save data to and
restore data from tape.
Fibre Channel Ports to ESS
ESS can be connected directly to the two (customer-ordered) HBA fibre-channel (FC) ports on
a Storage CLIM (FC ports are only supported on the NS2100 commercial system).
Fibre Channel Ports to Tape Devices
Fibre Channel tape devices can be connected directly to the two (customer-ordered) HBA
fibre-channel ports on a Storage CLIM. (FC ports are only supported on the NS2100 commercial
system). With a Fibre Channel tape drive connection to a server, you can use the BACKUP and
RESTORE utilities to save data to and restore data from tape.

The NS2100 uses the rack-mounted SAS disk enclosure, and its SAS disk drives are controlled
through the Storage CLIM. NS2100 systems support M8381-25 SAS disk enclosures connected
to DL380 G6 or DL380p Gen8 Storage CLIMs. This illustration shows the ports on the DL380
G6 and DL380p Gen8 Storage CLIMs:
