Before Setting Up a Netw ork Distribution Serv er
Y ou need to meet the following requiremen ts b efore y ou can set up a netdist
serv er.
Make sur e the server has ade quate disk sp ac e mounte d at /netdist.700 .
The actual size will dep end on the size of the lesets y ou wish to distribute.
In fact, y ou might w an t to moun t a separate disk on the netdist serv er
to con tain the directories from whic h the serv er distributes les. (F or
information on adding disks and moun ting le systems, see the System
A dministr ation T asks Manual).
Set up the networking softwar e. T o transfer les, b et w een the netdist serv er
and clien t systems, set up ftp (le transfer proto col) in the \anon ymous"
mo de. Anon ymous ftp is not the only metho d y ou can use to transfer les,
but it pro vides a fast, eective v ehicle for le transfer among net w orked
systems. If y ou do not ha v e anon ymous ftp on y our system, y ou can set it
up using sam (1M) or b y consulting the man ual Instal ling and Maintaining
NS-ARP A Servic es .
