Procedure
1.
If

so,

2.
Become
the
sup eruser
on
the
system
y
ou
w
an
t
to
up date.
3.
Make
sure
y
ou
are
in
the
ro
ot
directory
( cd
/ ).
4.
If
y
ou
are
loading
optional
lesets
that
do
not
require
a
system
reb o ot,
pro ceed
to
the
next
step.
If
y
ou
are
not
sure,
pro ceed
with
the
rest
of
this
step.
If
y
ou
are
loading
lesets
that
cause
the
system
to
reb o ot
y
ou
should
bring
the
system
to
a
single-user
state.
Note
The
up date
program
reb o ots
the
system
if
y
ou
select
a
leset
(or
lesets)
that
are
agged
to
indicate
a
reb o ot
is
necessary
.
If
a
reb o ot
is
necessary
,
y
ou
will
b e
w
arned
b efore
loading
b egins.
Y
ou
then
ha
v
e
the
option
of
pro ceeding
or
exiting
the
update
program,
bringing
the
system
to
a
single-user
state,
and
re-starting
update .
Run
the
shutdown
command.
First,
make
sur
e
al
l
users
ar
e
lo
gge
d
o
the
system
,
and
then
bring
y
our
system
to
a
single-user
state
b
y
en
tering:
/etc/shutdown
The
system
will
take
sometime
(p erhaps
a
min
ute
or
more)
to
sh
ut
do
wn.
Then
it
will
start
up
in
the
single-user
state
and
issue
the
root
user
prompt
(normally
# ).
