Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Precautions
Electrostatic disc harge (ESD) can result from the buildup of static electricit y
on or around the comp onen ts y ou handle. Y ou can ev en carry a c harge on
y ou o wn b o dy , and the disc harge of this energy through a comp onen t or y our
w orkstation can cause damage to the system.
Caution
Observ e the following precautions at all times during these
remov al and replacemen t tasks to prev en t damage to the
system unit comp onen ts from ESD:
W ear a grounded static strap on y our wrist to ensure that
an y accum ulated electrostatic c harge will b e disc harged from
y our b o dy to ground.
Keep all uninsulated prin ted circuit cards in their protective
an tistatic bags.
Handle all prin ted circuit cards b y their edges, once y ou ha v e
remov ed them from their protective an tistatic bags.
