CONNECTING ROD BIG END OIL
CLEARANCE
Clean all oil from the crank pin and connecting rod big
end surface.
Place a piece of plastigauge on the crank pin, install the
connecting rod and the connecting rod cap, and tighten
the two connecting rod bolts (1) to the specified torque.
Do not rotate the crankshaft while the plastigauge is in
place.
Remove the connecting rod and measure the widest
width on the plastigauge (1) using the scale printed on
the bag of the plastigauge.
If the clearance is more than the service limit, replace
the connecting rod (page 15-5) and recheck the
clearance.
If the clearance is still more than the service limit with
the new connecting rod, replace the crankshaft (page
15-4).
CONNECTING ROD BIG END I.D.
Set the connecting rod cap to the connecting rod and
tighten the two connecting rod bolts (1) to the specified
torque.
Measure the connecting rod big end I.D.
If the measurement is more than the service limit,
replace the connecting rod (page 15-5).
Check the crank pin O.D. (page 15-10).
CRANK PIN O.D.
Measure the crank pin O.D. of the crankshaft.
If the measurement is less than the service limit,
replace the crankshaft (page 15-4).
