Savoy SL & LX 5th Wheel & Travel Trailer
• Attach breakaway cable to the tow vehicle, allowing enough slack for making tight turns. The breakaway
switch cable should be attached to a place on the tow vehicle separate from the hitch assembly.
Periodically pull out the breakaway switch pin and attempt to drive forward. If the breakaway system is
operating correctly the trailer wheels will not turn.
• Attach the safety chains. Safety chain connector should always be connected to hitch base plate or a
location specified for this purpose. Never attach chains by looping them around hitch ball.
• Connect trailer wiring harness to lighting system of the tow vehicle and trailer.
• Drive forward and check the trailer brakes by applying the hand controls. Check inside the trailer to make
sure the vents, windows and doors are closed.
NOTE:
Confirm the hitch is locked properly before towing. Confirm bars are adjusted for
proper load equalization.
Ride Height Angle
Ensure the trailer is level with the tow vehicle. If the hitch is too low, the nose of the trailer may drag on high
spots in the road. If the hitch is too high, the tail end of the trailer may drag. Either of these conditions will affect
trailer towability.
When the tow vehicle and trailer are level, the suspension will work properly and within the design limits. If
instability is still present, an “Anti-Sway Hitch” may be necessary to ensure a smooth safe ride and predictable
performance.
NOTE:
The trailer should be in a level position when hitched to the tow vehicle.
Tow Plug Connection
The recreational vehicle is equipped with a wire harness located on or near the pin box. Current draw should
not exceed ten amps for each designated light circuit.
The Tow Harness Wires are Color Coded:
1. White, 8 gauge - Ground
5. Red, 14 gauge - Left Turn
2. Blue, 12 gauge - Brake
6. Brown, 14 gauge - Right Turn
3. Green, 14 gauge - Clearance Lights
7. Yellow, 14 gauge - Backup Lights
4. Black, 14 gauge - Charge Line
