Savoy SL & LX 5th Wheel & Travel Trailer
10. Use one gallon of RV antifreeze to protect various water lines in the recreational vehicle. Pour 1 pint
in both kitchen and bath shower drains, 2 pints go in bath sink drain with some of antifreeze going into
gray tank to protect drain valve. While holding toilet flush handle open pour another 3½ pints into
toilet, letting antifreeze run into black tank to protect valve located there. Pour last ½ pint of antifreeze
into toilet after releasing handle. Use a soft cloth to wipe out sinks and showers after pouring in
antifreeze to protect surfaces from stains.
11. Leave low-point drains open until it is time to use the recreational vehicle again.
WARNING:
When draining the low point hot water drain lines, and the water heater, be sure the water is
cool. Hot water from the lines can burn or scald skin.
Using Nontoxic Antifreeze
Two or three gallons of FDA RV winterizing antifreeze is needed if the water lines are to be filled with
antifreeze.
NOTE:
An independently operated water pump with a water hose connection and a container to
hold non-toxic antifreeze solution must be used to perform this task.
1. Drain fresh water tank by opening tank drain valve located under the recreational vehicle. Look for the
drain decal on the side of the recreational vehicle.
2. Open all other low point drains, located under trailer, to drain off lines. Look for the drain decal on the
side of the recreational vehicle.
3. Let all the water drain. Turn on the pump and allow it to run for 30 seconds to one minute so that all
water is cleared out of the pump.
4. Connect water hose to the water tank fill located on the roadside of the recreational vehicle.
5. Remove the water heater drain plug and open the pressure release valve located in the water heater
outside compartment, allowing that water heater to drain.
6. Open the water heater bypass valve and close the water heater cold and hot water valves so no FDA RV
antifreeze enters the water heater tank.
7. Close all faucets, drain valves and low point drains.
8. Pump the non-toxic antifreeze solution into the water tank using an independently operater pump and
hose connected to the water tank fill.
9. Turn on the system water pump and operate each faucet until a small amount of antifreeze is present.
10. Close off the faucets.
11. Open the shower faucets and toilet valves to allow a small amount of antifreeze to run
into the holding tanks.
12. Use a soft cloth to wipe out the sinks and shower to protect surfaces from antifreeze
stains.
13. Using the same procedures, open and close all exterior faucets.
14. Turn water pump OFF.
15. Disconnect the power supply line affecting water pump operation.
