Chapter 6: Analyzer Operation
individual organic carbon concentrations in the acid, oxidizer, and dilution water. Therefore, the Analyzer can
calculate the carbon contributions made by the acid, oxidizer, and dilution water even when the analysis
settings change.
The Analyzer must be rinsed down before starting either procedure.
Blank Correction is intended to be used only with samples that are <10 ppm TOC.
Measuring the Blank
The Analyzer can measure the carbon concentrations in the acid, oxidizer, and dilution water, and subsequently
blank-correct results. During a blank measurement, the Analyzer flushes the reagents and dilution water, and
then measures the TC and IC in the acid, oxidizer, and dilution water. From those measurements, the Analyzer
calculates the TOC concentrations in the acid, oxidizer, and dilution water.
To measure the Blank
1. Ensure that the Analyzer is rinsed down.
2. Select the
Cal/Ver
tab.
3. Press the
Blank
button.
4. Press the
Calibration
button to select the TOC mode calibration to use when measuring the blank. If
you do not specify a calibration, the Analyzer will use the default TOC calibration for the 1000 ppm
range. Highlight a calibration and then press the
Select
button.
5. Press the
Start Blank
button to begin measuring the blank.
6. When the analysis is complete, the Analyzer displays a results screen that lists the measured TC, IC and
TOC concentrations of dilution water, acid, and oxidizer.
7. To save the measured blank values, press the
Apply
button.

The automated Blank Correction feature can only be used after the Analyzer has been calibrated
in
TOC mode
. If you want to use the automated blank correction at initial installation, perform a low-
level (<10 ppm) TOC mode calibration with blank correction set to Off. Measure the Blank using that
calibration (see the following section for details). After the blank is measured, you can then perform
analyses with Blank Correction set to On.
