selecting the grinD size anD grinD amOunt
there are 60 grind size settings (No. 1 – finest to No. 60 – coarsest) to enable you
to select the right grind size for your coffee/espresso machine, coffee beans, and
personal liking. You should select the grind size within the designated range for your
type of coffee/espresso machine. we recommend to start at a medium selection of
the ranges given in the following table. thereafter, adjust as required to control the
desired results.
to select the grind size, rotate the grind size collar to align the black marking line
beneath the grind size collar to the desired number. However, if you find it some-
what difficulty to turn the grind size collar, for your convenience, turn the bean hop-
per, that is fixed to the grind size collar, when locked to the grinder.
tiP:
If the grind size collar is too tight to move, run the grinder by pressing the stArt/
cANcel button while turning the bean hopper. this will release coffee beans and
coffee powder caught between the burrs.
tiP:
the »Design coffee Grinder Advanced Plus« offers the extraordinary feature of
adjusting the burrs for an even wider range of grind sizes (see: ›Adjusting the
upper Burr‹). However, you should try the normal settings first.
the following coffee chart should be used as a starting point to adjust your grinding
time (amount, dose) and / or grind size. for fine tuning, you should give it a try.

filling the POrtafilter fOr YOur esPressO machine
nOte:
use single wall filter baskets, when filling with freshly ground coffee beans. use
the finer settings (1–25) in the esPresso range (see: ›selecting the Grind size
and Grind Amount‹). we recommend starting with grind size setting 15 and rota-
ting the bean hopper (to adjust the grind size collar) either to coarser or to finer
settings until your preferred flavour profile is achieved.
traditionally, a single shot of espresso is defined as approx. 30ml in 30 seconds
and a double shot of espresso as approx. 60ml in 30 seconds. You will need to
extract a shot of espresso to determine, whether to make some changes to achieve
the correct rate of flow:
