Tamping pressure
apply manually when tamping the coffee puck. Each time attempt to tamper the
coffee powder with the same pressure.
Height of the coffee puck
adjust the provided Razor™ Tool for trimming the coffee puck.
refer to the table above (see: ›selecting the Grind size and Grind Amount‹) as a
starting point to adjust your grinding time and grind size. Any fine adjustment will
vary depending on the size of your filter basket, the coffee bean type and freshness,
the used espresso machine and, last but not least, your individual liking.
imPOrtant:
Never put pre-ground coffee in the bean hopper.
1. Prepare the coffee Grinder for operation (see: ›Preparing the coffee Grinder for
operation‹). Prepare the portafilter and single wall filter basket of your espresso
machine for receiving coffee grind.
2. select the appropriate cradle according to the portafilter of your espresso machi-
ne. use the large cradle for 58mm portafilters only. the small cradle is suited for
54mm and 50mm portafilters. Push the cradle into the retainer below the grind
outlet to the stop.

4. shortly press the stArt/cANcel button to start the coffee Grinder. let the
coffee Grinder operate until the set grinding time elapsed and the appliance stops
automatically.
tiPP:
You may stop or cancel operation at any time. for this, simply press the stArt/
cANcel button during operation (see: ›to Pause or cancel operation‹).
5. Pull the portafilter out of the coffee Grinder. the filter basket is now filled up with
freshly ground coffee powder.
6. tamp down the coffee powder applying between 15-20 kg of pressure. the
amount of pressure is not as important as consistently, and evenly applied pres-
sure every time.
7. trim the puck of coffee grind via the razor™ tool to the required height (see:
›trimming the Puck of coffee Powder‹).
8. thoroughly clean the rim of the portafilter / filter basket with a dry cloth and start
an extraction.
finDing the aPPrOPriate settings
when using the coffee Grinder for the first time for your espresso machine, typically
you need to find out the optimum settings for the height of the coffee puck, the grind
size, and the grinding time (amount).
1. It is good advice to start with the setting of the razor™ tool (height of the cof-
fee puck) as this parameter depends on the espresso machine you use. for this,
select a medium setting for the other parameters (see: ›selecting the Grind size
and Grind Amount‹).
2. fill the filter basket of your espresso machine and tamper the coffee powder.
thereafter, you can adjust the razor™ tool according to the instructions in sec-
tion ›Adjusting the razor™ tool‹.
3. with the portafilter filled up correctly, you should increase or decrease the grin-
ding time to get only a little more than required for this filling.
4. start an extraction to check, whether an appropriate extraction cycle is achie-
ved, according to the instruction of your espresso machine.
5. Adapt the grind size to the extraction result. If the extraction time is too short,
select a finer grind size (lower number). with an extraction time too high, select
a coarser grind size.
6. However, later on, when getting experienced, you may wish to adjust the set-
tings to your individual liking. for this, only change one setting at a time and
then check for the results.
