BefOre first use
warning – risK Of chOKing! alwaYs ensure that YOung chilD-
ren DO nOt PlaY with anY PacKaging material Of the aPPliance!
Do not leave young children without supervision, while the appliance, any part of it,
or the packaging are in their reach.
1. remove and discard all promotional labels, stickers, and packaging materials
attached to your coffee Grinder, but do not remove the model label. Always
ensure that young children do not play with any parts or accessories or the
packaging!
2. ensure you have found all parts and accessories before discarding the packa-
ging. see: ›Knowing Your »Design coffee Grinder Advanced Plus«‹.
cautiOn:
Do not use any abrasive cleaners, cleaning pads (e.g. metal scouring
pads), or any corrosive cleaners (e.g. disinfectants, chemical bleach) for cleaning.
Do not use any hard or sharp-edged objects for cleaning the appliance.
3. clean the bean hopper and portafilter cradles using a soft brush and warm dish-
water. rinse well. wipe the exterior of the appliance with a soft damp cloth. It
is essential to dry all parts thoroughly before usage (see: ›care and cleaning‹).
OPeratiOn
warning:
Do not leave the appliance or any part of it unattended, when in
reach of young children. Always switch off (press stArt/cANcel button) and
unplug the appliance, before assembling or disassembling any parts, or when the
appliance is not in use. Do not leave the appliance unattended while connected to
the power supply.
Always ensure that you have assembled the appliance completely and correctly
according to the instructions in this booklet before connecting the appliance to the
power supply and operating the appliance (see: ›Preparing the coffee Grinder for
operation‹). Do not use violence to avoid damage.
Do not place any clothes or tissues or similar materials on or under the appliance
during operation, to avoid overheating, fire and electric shock. Do not place any
foreign objects on or in the appliance or any part of it (e.g. bean hopper, grinding
chamber), to avoid damage.
the coffee Grinder will process the usual amount of coffee beans within seconds.
Do not operate the appliance continuously for more than 2 minutes to avoid overhe-
ating. Allow the appliance to cool down for 20 minutes after a longer time period
of operation.
PreParing the cOffee grinDer fOr OPeratiOn
nOte:
Before assembling the bean hopper, always ensure that the bean hopper is
completely dry, as with moisture in the bean hopper or grinding chamber the coffee
powder will go lumpy, thus clogging the grinding chamber and grind outlet.
1. Place the appliance on an appropriate working place near a suitable wall
power outlet. see: ›General safety Instructions‹ and ›Important safeguards for elec-
trical Appliances‹.
cautiOn:
for operation, always pull out the power cord from the cord storage
completely. However, do not use violence. the power cord is approx. 110 cm in
length. Do not attempt to pull it out further.
2. If required, carefully pull out the power cord completely from the cord storage in
the rear of the appliance.
3. Insert the bean hopper into position on top of the coffee Grinder. for this, align
the tabs on the base of the bean hopper with the grooves in the grind size col-
lar and push the bean hopper down into position. ensure that the bean hopper
and the grind size collar are aligned properly.
4. Pressing down the bean hopper firmly, turn the bean hopper lock clockwise to
lock the bean hopper into position. A “click” sound will be heard when the hop-
per is properly locked in place. the bean hopper must be fixed level on the top
of the grinder and may not wobble.

nOte:
You cannot lock the bean hopper with the bean hopper misaligned. the safe-
ty interlock will disable motor operation, if the bean hopper is not locked properly.
In this case, the GrIND tIMe dial will stay dark and the stArt/cANcel button will
be inactive even with the appliance connected to the power supply.
nOte:
Do not fill pre-ground coffee into the bean hopper. Do not overfill the bean
hopper. the lid must close without effort.
tiP:
You should not store coffee beans in the bean hopper. thus, it is best to fill in only
a little more than the required amount.
