If you have to rearrange the existing modules in the rack in order to get enough space
below/above the last already existing storage module, proceed as follows:
1. Shutdown the ETERNUS CS800 S5 system (server and storage bases) as described
in Chapter
"Turning On and Shutting Down the System" on page 75
.
2. Wait until the server has shut down, then press and hold the power ON/OFF button of
the storage base module for about 10 seconds until the READY LED does not glow any
more.
3. Remove the existing cable connections.
4. Install all existing and new modules in the rack according to the numbering scheme of
the modules, see
The sequence of the modules should be as shown in
5. Perform the following steps to start up the DX80 S2
with only the storage modules
connected which were already in use before:
a) If storage expansion modules were already used, connect them with the SAS
cables and power cords as shown by
b) Turn on the PSU switches at the rear of these storages modules.
c) Check that the LINE LEDs of all connected storage expansion modules are green.
d) Power on the storage base module by pressing its power ON/OFF button.
e) Wait until the READY LED of the storage base module glows green (EPROM. two
minutes).
6. Connect a new storage expansion module (only one at a time) with the SAS cables to
the last one of the already connected ones, see
V
CAUTION!
Failure to connect the SAS cables to the correct ports may result in data
corruption and/or potential data loss.
7. Connect a power cord to each power supply of the new storage expansion module.
8. Turn on both PSU switches of the module and wait until the STS (aka. READY/FAULT)
LED of both CMs glows green.
9. If further modules should be integrated, repeat the steps 6 to 8 for each of the modules.
10. Turn on the server by pressing its power ON/OFF button which is located at the front
panel on the right side.
A “Background initialize“ procedure is started. The new components are automatically
integrated into the system and put into service. No further actions are required.
