Multiple Domains Using Layer 2 and Layer 3 Redundancy
The example shown in
Figure 54
illustrates an ESRP configuration that has multiple domains using
Layer 2 and Layer 3 redundancy.
Figure 54: Multiple ESRP domains using Layer 2 and Layer 3 redundancy
This example builds on the previous example. It has the following features:
●
An additional VLAN,
Engineering
, is added that uses Layer 2 redundancy.
●
The VLAN
Sales
uses three active links to each BlackDiamond 10K switch.
●
The VLAN
Engineering
has two active links to each BlackDiamond 10K switch.
●
One of the edge devices carries traffic for both VLANs.
●
The link between the third edge device and the first BlackDiamond 10K switch uses 802.1Q tagging
to carry traffic from both VLANs traffic on one link. The BlackDiamond switch counts the link active
for each VLAN.
●
The second BlackDiamond switch has a separate physical port for each VLAN connected to the third
edge switch.
In this example, the BlackDiamond switches are configured for ESRP such that the VLAN
Sales
normally uses the first BlackDiamond switch and the VLAN
Engineering
normally uses the second
BlackDiamond switch. This is accomplished by manipulating the ESRP priority setting for each VLAN
for the particular BlackDiamond switch.
