Virtual LANs
ExtremeWare XOS 11.3 Concepts Guide
234
On the BlackDiamond 10K switch, all ports added to a specified VMAN must be in the same virtual
router. For more information on displaying, configuring, and using virtual routers, see
Chapter 10
.
VMAN multicasting with IP addresses.
Beginning with ExtremeWare XOS software version 11.3, you can
assign an IP address to a specified VMAN to enable multicasting. To enable multicasting on the
specified VMAN once you assigned an IP address, take the following steps:
1
Enable IP forwarding.
2
Enable IP multicast forwarding.
3
Enable and configure multicasting.
NOTE
See
Chapter 30
for information on configuring and using multicasting.
Once you enable multicast forwarding on the VMAN, you can configure and use PIM and IGMP
snooping.
QoS Queue on Egress Port
The system can maintain any configured 802.1p priority contained on the original header of the packet.
See
Chapter 15
for more information on configuring the 802.1p priority.
Egress Queue on the BlackDiamond 10K Switch Only
On VMAN packets, the BlackDiamond 10K switch examines the packet’s inner 802.1p tag and then
directs the packet to the appropriate egress queue on the egress port. This is not configurable.
Egress Queue on the BlackDiamond 8800 Family of Switches and the Summit X450
Switch Only
On the BlackDiamond 8800 family of switches and the Summit X450 switch, you can configure the
switch to examine the packet’s inner 802.1p tag and use that value to direct the packet to the
appropriate queue on the egress port. To configure this feature, issue the following command:
enable dot1p examination inner-tag port [all | <port_list>]
To return to the default value of ignoring the 802.1p value on the inner tag, issue the following
command:
disable dot1p examination inner-tag port [all | <port_list>]
NOTE
See
Chapter 15
for information on configuring and displaying the current 802.1p and DiffServ configuration for the
inner, or original header, 802.1p value.
By default, the system on the BlackDiamond 8800 family of switches and the Summit X450 switch uses
the 802.1p value on the outer VMAN header to direct the packet to the queue on the egress port.
