Control Unit IV Reference Manual
Troubleshooting
529-0004 Ver.3
6-19
Caution:
Only qualified personnel are authorized to open the Control Unit. To
avoid the risk of electrical shock, make sure to turn off the Control
Unit and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Before opening the Control Unit make sure you have taken adequate precautions against
electrostatic discharge. Open the Control Unit and set the P4 jumper to 1-2 to force the
Control Unit to bypass the code validity check and to operate in reprogramming mode at
startup. To locate the P4 jumper, see the diagram in Chapter 5 showing an internal view
of the Control Unit. Close the Control Unit, plug it in and power it on. Try the upgrade
program again (see Chapter 5) with a valid .HEX file.
4. Once the upgrade has been completed, turn the Control Unit off again and unplug the
power cord from the wall outlet. Return the jumper to position 2-3, plug in the Control
Unit and power it on. The
STATUS
LED should light up and remain lit. If not, the unit is
in reprogramming mode. Note that if you leave the jumper in position 1-2, the Control
Unit will not execute any commands other than upgrade commands.
5. If you still cannot upgrade the Control Unit, contact Electroline’s technical support
department.
6.8 General errors
The Control Unit may appear to be experiencing errors that are not related to a specific
system. This section covers some of these situations as observed by the Control Unit’s LEDs
or erratic behavior. Section 6.9 lists the error messages that may appear during the setup or
upgrade process, or during normal use of the Control Unit.
All the LEDs on the Control Unit are lit.
If all the LEDs are lit, then the upgrade program may have failed to install a valid copy of the
Control Unit’s firmware (see section 6.7 for troubleshooting upgrades) or the reset button
may be stuck. The reset button should return to the up position after you press it (see
Chapter 1). If the button remains stuck, contact Electroline’s technical support department
for maintenance.
The Control Unit appears to be slow at times.
Several factors can influence the Control Unit’s operation and speed. First, some commands
may slow down the other ports and stall them for a few seconds or minutes. Some commands
require a longer execution time. These commands are labeled with an asterisk (*) in the list
of commands that appears when you type
help
(see Chapter 3). Second, the Control Unit is
a multi-user device that processes each command as it is received. Some commands display a
message indicating the state of all the ports configured with the terminal protocol. For
example, if you are synchronizing a Control Unit on COM 3, the message Download… will
appear on COM 1 and COM 2 if you are also using the Terminal protocol on these ports.
When the process is finished, the message DONE is added to the first part of the message,
for example Download…DONE.
