Control Unit IV Reference Manual
Troubleshooting

6-5
Note:
If your Control Unit is connected to another unit and you are measuring the RF output
of the backup unit, it is normal that there is no RF signal. The only unit that transmits a
signal in a redundancy system is the master unit. If the unit you are testing is in backup
mode, repeat the test on the master unit. If the problem persists, then the addressable
taps are not receiving status messages from this Control Unit. Switch to the backup unit,
by shutting off the master unit and rebooting the backup unit, and contact Electroline’s
technical support department.
6. If there is a signal on the
RF OUT
port, but the
FSK
LED remains off, connect a signal
measuring device to the Control Unit’s
TEST OUT
port to make sure the FSK carrier is
present (see the procedure in step 5). Refer to the following table for troubleshooting
help, according to the measurement obtained.
Table 6-3: Procedures for troubleshooting problems with the TEST OUT port
Signal ok on
TEST OUT
?
Risk Action
No
No immediate impact on subscribers
since there is a signal on the
RF OUT
port. However, the unit requires
servicing (
FSK
LED off).
Contact Electroline to repair the
unit.
Yes
No immediate impact on subscribers,
but there is a risk of failure with the unit
since the demodulator is not working
properly (
FSK
LED off).
Contact Electroline to repair the
demodulator in the unit.
Alternate test for FSK signal when FSK LED is off
The FSK signal can also be tested by connecting a loopback signal from the network to the
TEST IN
port on the Control Unit. Before testing, make sure that the level of the signal is
within the Control Unit’s input range. Set the RF watchdog preset to 238 (see Chapter 3 for
more information on the RF watchdog). The
FSK
LED should now be lit.
